A few days ago, I received an email with a question about spam email on the iPad from Sandy (who is a reader of this blog). I did some research and instead of just writing her back, I thought it would be nice to share the answer with all my readers.
The question was about how to report or flag emails as Spam on a Yahoo! Mail account on the iPad.
Background information: In webmail accounts such as Yahoo! Mail or Gmail, when accessing them through a web browser, there is a button or icon that allows us to report emails that are spam. The webmail provider will then learn about this, and future emails from such address will be filtered.
I did a few tests on iOS 6 and realized that the Mail App allows us to report emails as spam on Gmail but not for Yahoo! accounts.
Spam email on Gmail accounts
To flag an email as Spam on the Gmail App, you should tap on the “Edit” button
tap on the “Move” button and then tap on the “Spam” folder.
Spam email on Yahoo! Mail App
For Yahoo! accounts, it is not possible to move emails into the Junk folder using the Mail App. Instead I suggest downloading the “Yahoo! Mail” App for iPad that is free.
Check out How to download and install iPad Apps.
Once downloaded, sign up with your Yahoo! ID and Password.
Note: Unless you sign out, the App will remember your login information so you will not have to enter it next time you open it.
After you login, select the email you want to report as Spam and tap on the Spam icon.
Alternatively, you can also login to your Yahoo! Mail account using iPad Safari. Reporting spam email is a similar process as on the App. After you login, select the email you want to report as Spam and tap on the Spam icon.
For Gmail users, there is also a Gmail App that can be downloaded for free. Check out How to download and install iPad Apps.
The App allows you to select one or more emails and report them as spam
