Dropbox with iPad

Today I’m going to be sharing with you an interesting app for the iPad. You may have heard about it before. It’s called DropBox.

DropBox allows you to upload documents, pictures and videos to your account online and then be able to access them from any device when you connect to the Internet. DropBox is available for Mac, PC, iPhone, Android, BlackBerry and iPad.

This means you can upload files on your laptop and have them available on the iPad or you can upload files from your iPad and then view them on your laptop or phone. Sounds cool? it’s because it is!

You can also share files with other people that may or may not have DropBox.

The app for iPad is free to download and the initial account comes with 2GB of storage for free. If you need more space, there are paid plans starting at $9.99 per month.

Before looking at my explanations below, you may want to subscribe for a free account. You can do this from your PC, Mac or iPad at the following address:

Getting Started | Download the DropBox app

Download the DropBox app onto your iPad.

Open DropBox

Once the app is installed, tap on its icon to open it.

Make sure your iPad is connected to Internet.

Tap the menu on the upper left corner to get started:

There’s 4 sub-menus that get displayed:

DropBox:

This sub-menu will show you the files that you have on your DropBox account online and that you can access on the iPad.

Favorites:

This sub-menu will show you the files that were marked as favorites and that can be seen on your iPad even when your are not connected to the Internet (i.e.: iPad is offline).

Uploads:

This sub-menu allows you to upload pictures or videos from your iPad onto the DropBox account.

Settings:

This sub-menu shows you which email address is linked to your Dropbox account, how much space is in use, allows you to upgrade your account by purchasing space, configure the photo and video upload quality, configure a passcode lock and unlink your iPad from DropBox.

Example: Uploading a picture from your iPad onto DropBox

Before we begin, make sure your iPad is connected to Internet.

From your home screen, open the Camera App and take a picture with your iPad. Need to refresh how to use the Camera App ?

Now, click the home button on the iPad and open the DropBox application.

Tap the Uploads menu , and tap on the “+” on the upper right corner.

Tap on the “Camera Roll >” menu and tap on the picture you want to upload.

Finally tap on the “Upload” button on the upper right corner and watch as your picture uploads to DropBox.

If you have DropBox running on your PC or Mac you’ll see the picture appear on your DropBox directory. Likewise, you can upload files on your laptop and see them on your iPad.
